Corner Corner, a new leisure destination bringing together food, culture, live music and sustainable farming under one roof, is now open for all to visit. Free to enter, with plenty of open-plan seating and free WiFi, it’s a space people from the area can use to work, play and relax.
The venue, which overlooks Canada Dock, opened with a soft launch for local people, and has been well-used in the days since. Visitors of all ages turned up to enjoy the first experience of the space, which features a contemporary jazz club and a food hall run by street food pioneers KERB. It’s also home to Minecraft Experience: Village Rescue, a new immersive experience recreating the world of the popular video game, which sold over 100,000 tickets in its first week.
The food hall, initially open from Thursday to Sunday each week, offers a taste of street food from independent, London-based operators. It features fried chicken from legendary Chick N Sours, Taiwanese rice bowls & bao from Canada Water Market’s very own Jou Jou’s Bites and tasty treats from Mexican eatery Masas Tacos. Open seven days a week alongside this is Sireli, Corner Corner’s all-day café and restaurant, serving an Armenian menu of small plates and fresh flatbreads.
The dishes served up at Corner Corner make use of fresh produce from the onsite indoor farm – London’s largest indoor commercial vertical farm, in fact – managed by Harvest London. With a strong emphasis on sustainability, it provides hugely diverse range of fresh, locally grown produce directly to the food hall and all-day café and will also supply restaurants across London in a mission to build a sustainable, hyper-local food system. Corner Corner will also host interactive experiences to give local people the chance to work creatively with sustainable produce and learn to cook new things.
Corner Corner’s music offer kicks off on Thursday 10 April, with a 12-week music programme curated by Printworks operators Broadwick. Expect an eclectic mix of jazz, funk and world music. DJs include Donna Leake and Haseeb Iqbal, while the live music line-up features Mercury Prize winner Deny Baptiste and Grammy nominee Acantha Lang. No tickets are required – come down and enjoy! Sundays will offer a more laid-back line-up, with jazz standards to close out the weekend.
Corner Corner will also launch a new music initiative aimed at fostering up-and-coming talent in creative and diverse spaces. This initiative will offer aspiring artists the chance to perform live at the venue, with slots before and after the headline sets on Friday and Saturday nights. More details will be announced soon on cornercorner.com and social media.
