Sushi Revolution will be an informal take on Japanese dining

Two new restaurants are coming to Canada Water, with local independent operators having agreed terms for the development’s first retail lettings in new spaces.

Sushi Revolution will be a modern izakaya, offering a Japanese menu in a warm, informal setting. Sticks’n’Sushi alumnus Aidan Bryan, who hails from the area, will run the restaurant alongside business partner Tom Blackshaw. The pair are looking to build on the success of the brand’s acclaimed eateries in Brixton and Shoreditch, with an offer including plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and a takeaway service.

The Village Tree will be a place to eat and drink throughout the day, serving coffee, sandwiches, salads and treats from local bakeries before morphing into a wine bar serving small plates in the evenings. It will be run by Rotherhithe husband-and-wife team Matt Lloyd and Tze-May Ng, who run the successful restaurant and deli The Pear Tree in SE8, and riverside café The Barn at Surrey Docks City Farm.

Both venues will open their doors later this year on the ground floor of Three Deal Porters, a five-floor building opposite Canada Water tube station incorporating warehouse-stye workspace and street-level dining options. Sushi Revolution will offer al fresco dining in the newly landscaped greenery of Dock Office Gardens. The Village Tree will overlook Canada Dock, itself recently revitalised with a wetland habitat traversed by the striking red Rafter Walk, and a dipping pond (where people can explore the dock’s aquatic life from the edge) due to open in the coming months.

These first two restaurants offer a taste of the diverse food and drink scene British Land and AustralianSuper are looking to help build in Canada Water. With the new Canada Water Leisure Centre gearing up to open later this year and Corner Corner about to bring together food, culture, live music and sustainable farming under one roof, the development is coming to life as a place for people to relax and enjoy themselves.
