5k route explores Canada Water’s open spaces

With the weather making the idea of outdoor exercise more appealing, why not try our 5K through Canada Water? The entire route crosses only one main road, and takes users through some of the area’s beautiful green and blue spaces – perfect for getting those steps in, whether you’re running or walking

The route starts from Canada Water station, passes by the listed Dock Offices building that houses British Land’s Canada Water project hub, and takes you on a loop around Southwark Park. You then pass under the bascule bridge, a piece of history surviving from the days when the docks welcomed great ships laden with timber, before heading along the edge of Greenland Dock. Keep an eye out for the floating nesting islands, relocated here from Canada Dock on completion of the wetland habitat.

Fancy a shorter route? One lap of Southwark Park is approximately 2.5k

From there, the route heads through the lush Russia Dock Woodland and up to see the gorgeous views from Stave Hill. The home straight takes you alongside a waterway of more recent vintage – the Albion Channel, created in the 1980s as part of the initial effort to repurpose the defunct dockside area as a modern urban neighbourhood. You eventually arrive at Canada Dock with its striking red boardwalk Rafter Walk, ending the route with a double dose of Canada Water’s history and nature.

When you’ve finished, why not reward yourself with the refreshment of your choice at Corner Corner, Canada Water’s newest destination which includes a café, food hall and much more?
