What’s Happening With Surrey Quays Shopping Centre?
British Land’s roots in the Canada Water area stretch back many years through our ownership (jointly with Tesco) of Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.
The plans for the Canada Water development include the eventual replacement of the shopping centre with more than 1 million sq ft of new shops, restaurants, cultural and leisure destinations. However, this is still some years off, and the shopping centre is here to stay until the planned new Tesco Superstore is fully up and running in Zone G. In the meantime, it remains an important leisure and retail hub for the area, which we’ll continue to support by adding new brands, experiences and spaces.

2024 saw the shopping centre given a makeover as part of the London Mural Festival, with the exterior walls transformed as part of the London Mural Festival, with the exterior walls transformed by artworks from Croatian artist and illustrator Tea Jurisic and Spanish street artist David Maker.
As part of our commitment to making Canada Water a great place to be, over the past year we’ve brought a variety of exciting experiences and events to the shopping centre to give people reasons to visit, spend time, shop, work and connect locally.
Corner Corner brings together a food hall offering a variety of street food options from renowned London operators, live music and DJs, and the UK’s largest urban indoor farm. Run by Harvest London, the farm has become a major source of fresh produce for restaurants across the capital from the food hall on site to local eateries such as the Pear Tree kitchen.

For anyone looking to get active, Cyclists Fighting Cancer run a secondhand bike shop in a unit of the shopping centre. All proceeds go towards buying new bikes for children living with or recovering from cancer, as a way to benefit their recovery and give them a path back to a normal life.
Prefer your sport to be on your two feet than two wheels? Just outside, four new padel courts are open for anyone wanting to try the new sport that has swept the nation.
Surrey Quays Shopping Centre also functions as an events space. We’ve played host to Lunar New Year celebrations, with songs, dances, food, calligraphy and more. And every month, Thrive’s markets see local artisans and traders offer their wares – it’s a great place to pick up a unique gift while supporting independent small businesses.
Over the next few years, we will continue to work hard to attract new brands to help Surrey Quays Shopping Centre thrive and serve all visitors until the end of its working lifespan.
